Judge/Executive Steve Pendery Welcomes NorthKey Community Care to Campbell County Fiscal Court
Judge/Executive Steve Pendery, joined by Commissioner Brian Painter and Commissioner Tom Lampe, welcomed leaders from NorthKey Community Care to this week's Fiscal Court meeting. Rob Vonckx, Chief of Operations and Strategy, and Jennifer Miller, Chief of Services and Development, shared an overview of the services NorthKey provides to Campbell County residents and to families across the wider region.
NorthKey is the local Community Mental Health Center for Northern Kentucky. Its mission is to transform lives and communities through quality care in three main areas: mental health, substance use, and developmental and intellectual disabilities. NorthKey serves eight Kentucky counties: Campbell, Kenton, Boone, Grant, Carroll, Pendleton, Gallatin, and Owen.
NorthKey is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic. That means it meets a strong national standard for providing coordinated mental health and substance use care, including 24-hour crisis services and care for anyone who walks through the door, regardless of ability to pay.
In 2025, NorthKey's work in Campbell County included:
- 2,008 Campbell County residents served
- 30,193 visits completed in the county
- 18 staff members based in Campbell County
The local team provides therapy, case management, crisis services, peer support, substance use groups, medication management, housing support, Assertive Community Treatment (a team-based service for people with serious mental illness), Mental Health Court support, and behavioral health services in the Campbell County Jail.
NorthKey also has therapists in all Newport schools and at Lincoln Elementary in Dayton. Discussions are underway with the Campbell County School District to expand school-based services. Assisted Outpatient Treatment, a court-supported program that helps people with serious mental illness stay in treatment, is also active in the county.
NorthKey's crisis services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year. Help is offered by phone or in person.

- National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline: 988. Calls from Northern Kentucky are answered locally by NorthKey staff.
In addition to crisis care, NorthKey offers a wide range of services:
- Prevention work, including suicide prevention training for schools and community groups, naloxone (Narcan) training to help save lives during an opioid overdose, and prenatal classes for expecting mothers through the Kentucky Moms Maternal Assistance Toward Recovery program.
- Substance use services, including an Intensive Outpatient Program with group and individual therapy, case management, peer support, and medication for opioid use disorder.
- Medical services, including psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and primary care for routine check-ups, vaccinations, and short-term physical health needs.
- Integrated care coordination, where staff help clients connect with both NorthKey services and outside resources, support client education, and track health measurements as part of a whole-person care approach.
